After many years of travelling around we have both grasped this opportunity to get involved in various committees that are of interest to us in Cornwall.
Cornwall Heritage Trust protects some of the most iconic sites in Cornwall, such as Treffry Viaduct, Castle an Dinas and Sancreed Beacon. We regularly provide grants to other heritage organisations and our education programme helps to promote a greater appreciation of Cornwall’s unique heritage.
Dickie is a trustee and Chair of the PR and Fundraising Committee.
Cornwall’s Regimental Museum – Recognised as probably the finest Military Museum in the South West of England. It is housed in “The Keep” at Bodmin, a magnificent Grade II listed Victorian building constructed in 1857.
The collection and displays cover 300 years of history, telling the story of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, volunteer militia and the The Light Infantry.
Dickie is a trustee for the museum and involved in raising awareness of this amazing facility and resource in the county.
Cornwall Macmillan Christmas Fair – Organised by our team of volunteers, over the last 25 years our Fair has raised in excess of £580,000. Kindly hosted by the Eden Project and generously sponsored and supported by a wide range of local and national business (with stallholders also generously donating 15% of their takings) all funds raised go straight to Macmillan in Cornwall.
The charitable annual event, hosted in the sparkling Eden Kitchen (between the two biomes) heralds the start of the season of goodwill in the county. In 2017 the Eden Project will once again be throwing open its doors for free – all visitors need do is buy a ticket for the main fair day on Thursday 16th November to get started with their Christmas shopping from the large range of stalls from Cornwall and beyond. As well as an abundance of gifts, home accessories, stocking fillers, clothing, and jewellery, an array of local food producers and suppliers will feature in the Food Hall. Alternatively, don’t miss the Preview Evening on Wednesday 15th November 2017 to support this extremely worthy cause in a magical setting.
Becs is on the committee and tasked with keeping the website updated and relevant. Dickie is also providing interim support for sponsorship in 2017.
ABF, the Soldier’s Charity – The National Charity of the British Army. We give a lifetime of support to soldiers and veterans from the British Army, and their immediate families, when they are in need. We make grants to individuals through their Regiments and Corps and support a wide range of specialist charities that sustain the British Army ‘family’, both at home and around the world.
We take pride in being responsive, making a difference at a critical point in peoples’ lives. We have been doing this since 1944, working with veterans of every conflict, and we envisage continuing doing so for the ‘long haul’ – supporting all future generations of our soldiers and their dependents.
Becs is on the committee and involved in raising awareness and funding for this national charity throughout the South West.
Cornwall Community Foundation – is an organisation that aims to improve the lives of those in Cornwall who are disadvantaged, isolated or vulnerable.
As a foundation, we have the expertise and local knowledge to help donors support the local causes and charities they care about, enabling them to make an impact through their giving. We identify issues of importance to our donors and facilitate investment to grassroots, front line, volunteer led organisations on their behalf – making a real difference to people’s lives across Cornwall.
The CCF is affiliated to UK Community Foundations (UKCF) and is quality accredited to standards endorsed by the Charity Commission. UKCF as an umbrella organisation provides support and advice for the 48 Community Foundations in the UK. UKCF also represents the Community Foundations at a national level and help to channel funding from national organisations such as Comic Relief and Big Lottery.
Dickie is on the Events Committee.
